Liao Yunjin,styled Ruizhu, was also known by her literary name "Zhiyun" and "Jin Xiang Jushi". Active in the Daoguang period (1821-1850), she was a native of Qingpu. From childhood, she learned poetry and painting from Liao Gutan, her father. Widowed in her early years, she created poems and paintings to pass the time. Skilled in painting flowers and birds and influenced by Yun Shouping, she, instead of drawing outlines, directly created images with colors so as to produce natural and vivid effect.
