Wu Jiu,styled Sexi, was active in the Jiaqing period (1796-1820). She was a native of Shimen, daughter of Wu Nanquan and second wife of Cheng Tongwen. Noble and intelligent, she was noted for her quick comprehension in poetry and painting. Influenced by works of famous painters, she was skilled in painting flower sprays in her early years and later changed her subject matters to landscape, orchid and bamboo.
