Luo Qilan,styled Peixiang, was also known by her literary name "Qiu Ting" (Autumn Pavilion). She was a native of Shangyuan and wife of Gong Shizhi. Widowed when she was still young, she devoted to poetry, essay, calligraphy and painting so as to give vent to her loneliness. Her outstanding talents won the admiration of the Qing literati like Yuan Mei, Wang Chang and Wang Wenzhi. In flower-and-bird painting, she modeled herself after Yun Shouping and Wen Shu by depicting flower sprays with simple composition and uncomplicated background.
