Yun Bing
,a descendent of Yun Shouping, an illustrious flower-and-bird painter in the early Qing dynasty, was styled Qingyu and active between the mid Kangxi period and the early Qianlong reign (1692-1742). Immersed in the creation of flower-and-bird paintings from childhood, she not only admired and copied the works of Yun Shouping collected by her family in order to learn his artistic techniques, but also carefully observed flowers, grass and insects around her home so as to absorb inspiration from nature. Her flower-and-bird paintings stress vivid and realistic depiction so as to create lifelike shapes. Besides, much attention is paid to the relationship between dark and light parts and the difference between front and back sides of the leaves so that they present a three-dimensional effect. Her works were acclaimed as "superbly painted with colors. The flowers greeting the sun are shiny."
