    Manchu people lived on the hunting in its early stage. In the long-term struggle with the violent animals, they cultivated strong nature and excellent capability of horsemanship and archery, which played an important role in reining the main China. For this nationality on the horseback, horse and people can not be divided.
    After the Manchu nationality entered the main China, many countries sent envoys to china. Some dependant states such as Mongolia, different parts of Xinjiang, Kuork and Afghanistan famous for their excellent horse in the world, contributed large number of horses to the center government, because the emperors of Qing Dynasty loved them.
    In order to enhance the administration to those horses, in the early Qing Dynasty, the center government set up Adun Department, later named Shangsiyuan, or the Imperial Stud, under the Imperial Household Department, full in charge of feeding, running and riding, choosing imperial horses. In addition, there were saddle workshop, arrow workshop and arrows workshop, in charge of producing necessary objects for the emperor's riding and shooting, such as horse saddles and arrows.

    From the reign of Emperor Kangxi, Qing Dynasty, every fall, Emperor Kangxi would lead his 8-flags army to hunt in Mulan hunting area beyong the Great Wall. He not only practiced but also showed his army how to hunt, so as to not forget the rules from the ancestors. The Emperor Kangxi was good at hunting. So was the Emperor Qianlong. He even set up a stele in the Jianting, or the Arrow Pavilion in the Forbidden City, exhorting the officials that riding and shooting are the base on which to build up the nation of the Qing Dynasty, which should be followed generation by generation.
    The imperial harness fittings including saddle and horsewhip, and the arms on the horseback such as arrow and armours, all were carefully produced and beautifully decorated, reaching to a perfect harmony between the practice and aesthetic value. The capability of Manchu Nationality on the horse was shown in this way.
